Poly Tubing

Poly tubing is a continuous clear plastic tube of LDPE film on a roll: cut it to any length and seal one or both ends to make poly bags exactly as long as your product. We carry more than 140 rolls from 1.5" to 48" wide and 1.25 to 6 mil, made from 100% virgin LDPE that is FDA and USDA compliant for food contact and treated on one side for printing.

How Poly Tubing Works

Poly tubing is a flat, seamless tube wound on a roll. Pull off what you need, cut it, and heat seal, tape or staple the ends; the width of the tubing is the width of the finished bag. One roll replaces dozens of bag sizes: a 3,500' roll makes about 3,500 bags 12" long, or 1,750 bags 24" long. Every roll is 12" in diameter on a 3" core.

Poly Tubing by Thickness

  • 1.25 mil: lightweight, the most length per roll, for bakery, apparel and light products
  • 1.5 mil: economical everyday packaging
  • 2 mil: the most popular general-purpose gauge
  • 3 mil: heavier parts and frozen food
  • 4 mil: heavy-duty parts, tools and products with sharp edges
  • 6 mil: our heaviest, for bar stock, pipe and heavy equipment

How to Choose a Width

The tubing width is the flat width of the finished bag. For flat items, choose a width about an inch wider than the item. For thicker items, choose a width of at least the item's width plus its depth. Thicker gauges come on shorter rolls, so compare rolls by bags per roll, not just price.

Sealing and Dispensing

Tubing can be heat sealed with an impulse or band sealer, or closed with tape, staples or twist ties. To cut tubing quickly at a packing station, mount the roll on a tubing rack or dispenser.

Printable, Food-Safe Tubing

Our tubing is 100% virgin LDPE, FDA (21 CFR 177.1520) and USDA compliant for direct food contact, and treated on one side so it readily accepts printing inks. It's used for bread and bakery, meat and sausage, produce and any food product packaged to custom lengths.

Tubing vs. Poly Bags

Tubing is best when product lengths vary or you need lengths no bag comes in. For products that are always the same size, ready-made flat poly bags or gusseted poly bags save the cutting and sealing. For electronics and static-sensitive parts, use anti-static poly tubing.
